Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has secured a notable new order from Polestar Maritime Limited for the construction of two Green Tugs with 60-tonne bollard pull capacity. The order has been awarded under the Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, marking another important step in the country’s push toward sustainable maritime operations.

As per the disclosure, the two environmentally friendly harbour tugs will be built at Cochin Shipyard’s facilities and are scheduled for delivery in August 2027 and September 2027 respectively. These tugs are designed to support cleaner port operations by reducing emissions while maintaining high-performance standards required for harbour assistance and towing operations.

The Green Tug Transition Programme is a key policy initiative aimed at promoting the adoption of green technologies in India’s port ecosystem. The project awarded to Cochin Shipyard aligns well with this national objective and further strengthens CSL’s positioning as a preferred shipbuilding partner for next-generation, sustainable vessels.

Cochin Shipyard clarified that none of its promoters, promoter group entities, or group companies have any interest in Polestar Maritime Limited. The company also confirmed that the order does not fall under related party transactions, ensuring full regulatory compliance and transparency.
