Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. is set to bolster its presence in the sports broadcasting sector with the launch of Unite8 Sports, a new portfolio of dedicated sports channels. These channels aim to offer a comprehensive range of sports content, including football, kabaddi, cricket, badminton, wrestling, boxing, and combat sports, catering to diverse consumer preferences.
The company plans to introduce four dedicated sports channels: Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD in Hindi, and Unite8 Sports 2, Unite8 Sports 2 HD in English. This strategic move is designed to create a robust linear sports bouquet, enhancing Zee’s engagement with sports enthusiasts and expanding its footprint in the sports broadcasting ecosystem.
Bavesh Janavlekar, who has been instrumental in managing Zee’s Marathi movies cluster, will take on the additional role of Chief Business Officer for Unite8 Sports channels. Janavlekar’s strategic vision and deep understanding of the business are expected to drive the next phase of expansion in Zee’s sports business.
In addition to launching new channels, Zee Entertainment is in discussions with FIFA to broadcast and stream the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in India, further strengthening its sports content offering.
This initiative underscores Zee’s commitment to diversifying its content portfolio and building scalable, value-accretive businesses that leverage emerging growth opportunities in the sports broadcasting segment.
