According to information from the Flightradar service, Representatives Speaker of US House,  Nancy Pelosi has landed in South Korea, according to TASS. Pelosi will arrive at the hotel where she will spend the night about 11 p.m. local time. Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, which raised tensions between the US and China because Beijing sees Taiwan as its sovereign territory, preceded her visit to South Korea. On Thursday, August 4, Nancy Pelosi will meet with South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo while she is in Seoul.

The leaders are anticipated to discuss a variety of national and international concerns during their discussion, including the North Korean tensions that have recently been eclipsed by China’s anger over her travel to Taiwan. However, North Korea backed its friend Beijing even if South Korea urged restraint across the Taiwan Strait. Speaking to Newsweek, representatives of the South Korean Foreign Ministry voiced optimism for the maintenance of “peace and stability” in the Taiwan Strait and the development of “cross-strait relations” through “conversation and collaboration.” Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea will apparently not meet with Nancy Pelosi because he is on vacation and Foreign Minister Park Jin will be attending meetings organised by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Cambodia (ASEAN).

Notably, North Korea has harshly criticised the Representatives Speaker of US House Nancy Pelosi’s travel to Taiwan, calling it a “impudent meddling” by Washington into another country’s domestic affairs. According to a Newsweek article, the North Korean Foreign Ministry described Taiwan as a “inseparable part” of China. Notably, Pelosi became the highest-ranking American official to visit Taiwan in the previous 25 years. She visited Taiwan despite China’s vocal opposition. US President Joe Biden spoke on the phone with his Chinese colleague Xi Jinping before to her trip to Taiwan. In the course of their conversation, Jinping warned Biden that “those who play with fire will perish by it” and urged the US to uphold the “one-China” tenet.

Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan

On Tuesday, August 2, Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. The congressional delegation and Pelosi were hailed by the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry for visiting Taiwan to offer their support. After their arrival, Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House, said that the US’s “unwavering commitment” to assisting Taiwan’s “vibrant democracy” was honoured by their visit. “Including fostering a free and open Indo-Pacific area,” she added, “their meetings with Taiwan’s leaders reaffirm US support for its partner and advance our shared interests.” Pelosi spoke with Tsai Ing-wen, the president of Taiwan, during her trip there.
