Indian media reports and flight-tracking data indicate that the business jet carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed during a second landing attempt at Baramati Airport on the morning of January 28, 2026.

The Learjet 45, operating a chartered flight from Mumbai to Baramati, had aborted its initial approach and was attempting a second approach to the runway when the accident occurred, according to data reviewed from flight-tracking platforms and aviation sources.

Second approach before crash

Tracking information suggests the aircraft circled the airport area after an initial landing attempt did not result in touchdown. During the subsequent approach, the jet descended toward the runway but crashed near the runway threshold, moments before or during landing.

Aviation observers note that a second approach is typically initiated when pilots are unable to achieve safe landing parameters during the first attempt due to factors such as:

  • Weather or visibility conditions

  • Approach alignment issues

  • Speed or altitude instability

Authorities have not yet confirmed the precise reason for the aborted first approach.

No survivors

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that all five people on board were killed in the crash. The aircraft burst into flames after impact, leaving no survivors.

Those on board included Ajit Pawar, two accompanying personnel, and two crew members.

Investigation underway

The DGCA and other aviation agencies have launched a formal investigation into the incident. Officials are expected to closely examine:

  • Flight data and approach profiles

  • Air traffic control communication

  • Weather conditions at the time of landing

  • Aircraft maintenance and operational history

The confirmation that the aircraft was on a second landing approach adds a crucial technical dimension to the investigation, as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal crash.

Further updates are awaited as investigators analyse flight records and site evidence.
