Shares of Zen Technologies surged nearly 5% on Tuesday after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that India plans to roll out a nationwide “smart border” project aimed at securing around 6,000 km of border with Pakistan and Bangladesh using advanced surveillance technologies.

The proposed project is expected to deploy drones, radars, smart sensors, and AI-enabled surveillance systems across sensitive border areas, boosting investor sentiment around defence technology and homeland security companies.

Zen Technologies, which operates in the defence training and simulation space and has been expanding into anti-drone and surveillance technologies, witnessed strong buying interest following the announcement.

Zen Technologies has launched ‘s first Integrated Smart Border Suite (ISBS), marking a significant step in the nation’s push towards a ‘Smart Border’ security initiative. The announcement follows a recent declaration by Union Home Minister  about a nationwide project to secure approximately 6,000 km of border with Pakistan and Bangladesh using advanced technologies.

The ISBS is designed to operate as a 24×7 intelligent digital shield, enabling swift detection, tracking, and neutralisation of hostile activities across challenging terrains and high-risk sectors. The suite addresses threats such as illegal infiltration, narco-terrorism, drone-based smuggling, and hybrid warfare tactics along India’s borders.

Zen Technologies’ Smart Border Suite includes several advanced components:

1. **AI-Powered Anti-Drone Systems**: These systems, available in vehicle-mounted, man-portable, and fixed configurations, offer both soft-kill and hard-kill capabilities against drone threats.

2. **Smart Loitering Munition**: AI-enabled systems for surveillance, target acquisition, and precision strike operations in contested environments.

3. **Interceptor Drones**: High-speed aerial platforms designed to detect, pursue, and neutralise hostile drones before they reach critical zones.

4. **Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs)**: Autonomous systems for reconnaissance, surveillance, logistics support, and tactical operations in high-risk environments.

5. **Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS)**: These stations are integrated with electro-optical sensors, thermal imaging, and fire-control systems for accurate target engagement.

6. **Electro-Optical & Thermal Surveillance Systems**: Long-range, all-weather systems with intelligent tracking and thermal sensing for continuous monitoring.

Ashok Atluri, Chairman & Managing Director of , commented on the suite’s launch, stating that India’s border security is transitioning from static deployments to intelligent, technology-driven systems capable of responding to dynamic threats in real-time. The ISBS represents an indigenous AI-enabled ecosystem that integrates various defence technologies into a unified operational grid.

Addressing the Border Security Force Investiture Ceremony and Rustamji Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, Amit Shah said the government is working towards creating an integrated and technology-driven border security grid within the next year.

According to the Home Minister, the Smart Border Project will deploy drones, radars, modern cameras, smart surveillance systems, and other advanced technologies across border areas to strengthen monitoring and security operations.

He stated that once implemented, the project would significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Border Security Force (BSF) and help tackle emerging threats including cyber warfare, hybrid warfare, infiltration attempts, and drone-based challenges.

The announcement boosted sentiment around defence technology and surveillance-focused companies such as Zen Technologies, which has exposure to anti-drone systems, simulation technologies, and defence electronics.

Amit Shah also reiterated the government’s stance on infiltration, stating that the administration aims not only to stop infiltration but also identify and expel illegal infiltrators. He added that states such as Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal are following stricter anti-infiltration policies.

The Home Minister further said that India’s border security strategy must evolve with changing threats and technologies, highlighting the increasing importance of smart surveillance infrastructure.

Market participants believe companies involved in drones, AI surveillance, radar systems, defence electronics, and border monitoring technologies could remain in focus as more details around the Smart Border Project emerge.
