Senior NCP-SCP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was overwhelmed with emotion on Tuesday after learning about the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash near Baramati.

Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Deshmukh struggled to hold back tears and found it difficult to speak, repeatedly pausing as he reacted to the tragic news. Visibly shaken, he described the loss as deeply painful, reflecting the widespread shock within Maharashtra’s political circles following Pawar’s sudden demise.

Ajit Pawar was travelling in a private aircraft that crashed while attempting to land near Baramati earlier in the day. According to initial reports, five people were on board the aircraft, including two pilots, and all five are feared dead. Emergency services rushed to the crash site, while aviation authorities began preliminary assessments into the incident.

The news of Pawar’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief across the state, with leaders from across party lines expressing condolences and remembering him as a seasoned administrator and influential leader in Maharashtra politics.

Deshmukh’s emotional reaction underscored the personal loss felt by many leaders who had worked closely with Pawar over the years, as tributes continue to pour in from across the country.
