The Winter Session of Parliament began on a confrontational note as members of the INDIA bloc, led by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, launched loud protests inside the Lok Sabha. The Opposition raised slogans of “tanashahi band karo” as proceedings commenced, signalling a tense and combative start to the 15-day legislative session.
Visuals from inside the House showed INDIA bloc MPs standing in unison, raising slogans and gathering near the aisles while Speaker Om Birla continued with the scheduled business. The protests intensified as Opposition members accused the government of suppressing their voices and not allowing adequate discussion on issues they deem crucial for public interest.
Akhilesh Yadav, present on the Opposition benches, led the contingent as MPs demanded accountability and space for debate. The coordinated protest disrupted the early minutes of the session, forcing the Speaker to repeatedly call for order.
The agitation adds to growing friction between the treasury and Opposition benches, especially after calls from the government for a productive, disruption-free session. Despite appeals for restraint and constructive participation, the INDIA bloc has made it clear that it intends to raise concerns vocally and persistently.
With Day 1 already witnessing heated scenes, the Winter Session is expected to face further turbulence as both sides prepare for contentious debates in the days ahead.
