A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck 14 km WSW of Narsingdi, Bangladesh, at 10:08:26 AM (UTC+05:30) on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, making its effects more widely felt across nearby regions.

Tremors were strongly felt in several parts of Kolkata, with residents reporting light shaking lasting a few seconds. The tremors prompted precautionary evacuations from multiple office buildings, while many citizens stepped outdoors in confusion and concern.

A resident near Sealdah shared:
My dog suddenly started barking, which was unusual. My husband felt his chair move. Initially, we thought it was just dizziness, but our neighbours confirmed the tremor too.

Another resident in a multi-storey housing complex said:
We did not know how to react at that moment. It happened so quickly.

As of now, no casualties or structural damages have been reported. Authorities are monitoring the situation, and further details are awaited.
