Kolkata, Friday — Mild earthquake tremors were felt across several parts of Kolkata around 10:10 am, prompting momentary panic among residents and office-goers. The tremors, which lasted only a few seconds, led many people to step out of residential complexes and commercial buildings as a precaution.

Multiple citizens across central and eastern Kolkata confirmed feeling the vibrations. While the tremors were light, the suddenness created concern, especially in multi-storey structures.

A resident from the Sealdah area shared her experience, saying, “My dog started barking suddenly which was not usual. My husband then said he felt his chair moving. At first we thought it was just a headache or dizziness, but after checking with neighbours, everyone felt it too.”

Another resident from a multi-level housing complex said, “Me and my family did not know how to react at that point.”

As of now, there are no reports of casualties or structural damage. The exact magnitude of the tremor is yet to be officially confirmed, and further details from the National Center for Seismology (NCS) are awaited.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
