VA Tech Wabag (‘WABAG’), a leading global water technology company, has expanded its footprint in Africa with a prestigious €78 million Design, Build & Operate (DBO) order in Zambia. Awarded by Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC), the project is funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Germany’s Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). This marks WABAG’s entry into Zambia, cementing its role as a top water solutions provider in Africa.

The contract involves the construction of two advanced Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) in Ngwerere and Chunga, with capacities of 54 MLD and 19 MLD, respectively. The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phase will take 36 months, followed by 24 months of sustainable Operation & Maintenance (O&M).

A standout feature of the project is its focus on renewable energy, utilizing biogas and solar power to meet most energy needs. This aligns with Zambia’s push for sustainable infrastructure.

WABAG’s proven expertise in delivering cutting-edge water and wastewater solutions and its competitive bid were instrumental in securing the project. With this strategic win, WABAG continues to strengthen its leadership in Africa, contributing to the continent’s water and wastewater management goals.

Guhan Kandasamy, Head – Sales & Marketing (Africa), commented, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to LWSC for their confidence in WABAG to deliver one of Zambia’s largest and most advanced sanitation projects in the recent decades. Through this project, WABAG is proud to contribute significantly to the Zambian government’s mission to enhance water and sanitation infrastructure, positively impacting countless lives.”
