Hollywood family mystery-comedy The Sheep Detectives has started its theatrical run with a fair response at the global box office after releasing on May 8. The film, featuring Hugh Jackman in a leading role, has gained attention for its unusual storyline centered around a flock of sheep solving a murder mystery.

As per reports by Box Office Mojo, the film has earned over $28 million worldwide within its opening weekend. The movie collected nearly $16 million in the United States and Canada, while international territories contributed around $12 million to the total worldwide earnings.

Directed by Kyle Balda and written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, the film is based on Leonie Swann’s novel Three Bags Full. The cast includes Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston and Patrick Stewart alongside Hugh Jackman.

Trade analysts had predicted an opening weekend between $10 million and $20 million, and the film managed to perform within expectations despite competition from major releases like Mortal Kombat II.

The movie has also received largely positive reviews from critics, with many praising its emotional storytelling, humor and family-friendly mystery elements.
