The opening day of the Winter Session ended in complete disorder as the Lok Sabha was adjourned till tomorrow following a third round of disruptions triggered by Opposition protests over the SIR issue. The House, which reconvened multiple times through the day, struggled to conduct business as Opposition MPs continued raising slogans and storming the well, demanding attention to the matter.
The ruckus began early in the morning and persisted through every sitting, with members hooting, shouting and blocking proceedings. Each attempt by Speaker Om Birla to restore order was met with renewed protests, forcing repeated adjournments. The final adjournment for the day came just as the government was preparing to move ahead with its legislative agenda.
Visuals from inside the House showed MPs crowding the aisles and refusing to return to their seats, prompting the Speaker to halt the session once again. With no signs of the standoff easing, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 11:00 am on December 2, 2025.
The disruptions on Day 1 highlight the sharp divide between the treasury and Opposition benches, setting the tone for what may become one of the most turbulent Winter Sessions in recent years.
