At the close of the trading day, the Sensex tumbled 1,022.77 points, or 1.32 percent, to settle at 76,356.14. The broader Nifty 50 index mirrored the downward trajectory, plunging 344.05 points, or 1.47 percent, to close at 23,087.45.
