India’s largest reclining statue of Lord Buddha is being built in Bodh Gaya, Gaya. This statue is being built in Jani Bigha village of Bodh Gaya, which will be 100 feet in length, 30 feet in height and 24 feet in width.
This statue of Lord Buddha is being made in Mahaparinirvana mudra (sleeping posture). This statue of Lord Buddha in this posture is the largest in the world.
This statue of Lord Buddha is being built by Buddha International Welfare Mission. Buddha International Welfare Mission started its construction in the year 2019. Arya Pal Bhikshu, Founder Secretary of the Buddha International Welfare Mission, told that the foundation of the mission was laid here in the year 2011. At the same time, he told that this statue of Lord Buddha is being made by Kolkata’s famous sculptor Mintu Paul. Fibreglass is being used in the making of the idol.
This statue will be inaugurated in the month of February 2023. After this, devotees and people will be able to see this statue. Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, from where his discourses and messages were spread in every corner of the world.
This is a sleeping posture statue of Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha had said in this posture before Mahaparinirvana that he would die after 3 months from today. Lord Buddha also gave his last message in this posture. Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana at the age of 80 in Kushinagar. This statue would have been completed long ago but due to Corona, the construction work has been delayed.
In this statue of Lord Buddha, his head rests on the right hand. The head of Lord Buddha will be in the north direction and his feet will be in the west direction. There is a calm expression on the face and both the lips are adjacent to each other with a smile. Kolkata’s famous sculptor Mintu Paul is going to become another example in the field of statue making with this Buddha statue. Mintu Paul has already earned fame by making many idols of Maa Durga.
