On Friday evening, the popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp went down for a lot of users in India. A lot of users reported that the privacy settings of the App had a glitch and the ‘last seen’ status of people wasn’t visible.
Reports showed a 66 per cent spike in the reports of WhatsApp going down with the last seen status vanishing. Another 28 per cent of users reported connectivity issues. This issue was faced by both Android and iOS users.
A tweet by WABetainfo said, “WhatsApp is experiencing issues when updating privacy settings.” Many users pointed out the issue with tweets like “Does anyone know what’s going with #WhatsApp?”.
Meanwhile, the official Twitter account of Mumbai Police tweeted saying they came across no such issues, confirming that not everyone was facing the same issues.
Neither Facebook nor WhatsApp has commented anything on the issue so far. Three days ago, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger suffered outages in different parts of the world. Instagram users were not able to send direct messages or DMs.
