Independent satirical drama Dug Dug has continued its low-key theatrical run after releasing on May 8. Despite earning praise from critics and film festival audiences, the film has struggled to generate significant footfalls at the Indian box office during its opening weekend.
As per reports by BoxOffice India 24, Dug Dug collected around ₹0.01 crore on each of its first three days, taking its total India net collection to approximately ₹0.03 crore so far. The film’s India gross collection currently stands near ₹0.04 crore.
Directed by Ritwik Pareek, Dug Dug is a comedy-mystery satire inspired by real events and revolves around a bizarre belief system built around a deceased man’s motorcycle. The film received attention after filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Nikkhil Advani came on board to support its theatrical release.
While mainstream box office numbers remain limited, the film has been appreciated for its sharp satire on blind faith and commercialization of religion. Critics have particularly praised its unusual storytelling and dark humor.
