In a key development in the Delhi Red Fort car blast case, CNN-News18 has reported that one suspect has been taken into custody by Delhi Police’s Special Cell for interrogation. The individual is believed to have possible links to the vehicle that exploded near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, killing at least eight people and injuring several others.
Sources told the channel that the suspect was detained late Monday night from North Delhi, following intelligence inputs and initial leads gathered from CCTV footage and witness accounts. The suspect is currently being interrogated to determine whether the explosion was part of a planned terror attack or an organized sabotage attempt.

According to police officials, the blast occurred around 6:52 PM, when a slow-moving car halted at a red light and exploded, triggering a fire that engulfed nearby vehicles. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that all key agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), are on-site and actively investigating the cause of the blast.
“Some people have died, and some have been injured. The Home Minister has also called us, and information is being shared with him from time to time,” Golcha said in his first official statement.
Sources indicate that forensic teams have recovered metal debris, wires, and explosive residue from the site, which points toward the possibility of an improvised explosive device (IED) rather than a mechanical or CNG-related explosion.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation, and both leaders are receiving regular updates as the investigation progresses. High alert remains in effect across Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, with security tightened at metro stations, public areas, and government establishments.
The detained suspect’s identity has not been disclosed yet, as officials say the interrogation is at a “critical stage.” More arrests are likely as agencies trace digital and physical evidence linked to the incident.
