Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to senior security officials and reviewed the situation following the car explosion near Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening that claimed at least eight lives and left four injured.

According to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Shah was briefed by the Delhi Police Commissioner and top Intelligence Bureau officers about the ongoing investigation and the security measures taken across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Home Minister has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and forensic teams to extend full cooperation to Delhi Police in determining the exact cause of the blast and to ensure no possibility of a terror link is ruled out without thorough verification.

Officials said the forensic samples from the site, including car debris and explosive residues, have been sent for chemical analysis to identify the type of explosive used. Preliminary assessments suggest that the blast intensity exceeded that of a standard CNG explosion, prompting agencies to examine whether improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were involved.

Amit Shah has also instructed that security be tightened across Delhi, NCR, and Uttar Pradesh, especially around crowded public spaces, metro stations, and religious sites. The Home Ministry’s control room is monitoring developments in coordination with Delhi Police, NDRF, and fire department officials.

The explosion, which occurred around 6:30 PM near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station, resulted in a major fire that damaged multiple vehicles. Fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, but at least eight people were declared dead on the spot, with three critically injured now under treatment at LNJP Hospital.

The situation remains under close watch, with officials confirming that high alert has been sounded across Delhi-NCR and all bordering states.
