A major explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening sent shockwaves through central Delhi, prompting an immediate high-alert response from security agencies.

According to early reports, a car parked near the metro station suddenly caught fire following a loud explosion around 6:30 pm, triggering a blaze that spread to multiple nearby vehicles. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as smoke engulfed the area and people rushed to safety.

Officials have confirmed multiple casualties and injuries, with the victims rushed to LNJP Hospital, as per ANI sources. Seven fire tenders were deployed to bring the situation under control, while the Delhi Police Special Cell and forensic teams have begun investigations to determine the cause of the blast.

At present, it remains unclear whether the explosion was due to a mechanical failure, gas leakage, or a deliberate act, but given the proximity to the historic Red Fort — a high-security zone — authorities are treating it with utmost seriousness.

Traffic has been diverted around Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, and although Delhi Metro operations remain functional, security checks have been intensified across nearby stations.

The situation continues to evolve, and official confirmation on the cause and casualty count is awaited.
