In the latest update on the Dhaula Kuan BMW accident case, the blood sample report of accused Gaganpreet Kaur has returned negative for alcohol, Delhi Police confirmed on Tuesday.

The case so far

Gaganpreet, 38, was arrested on September 15 after her BMW rammed into a motorcycle near Dhaula Kuan, killing Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry, and injuring his wife, Sandeep Kaur. The accused was produced before a Delhi court yesterday and sent to two days of judicial custody.

The incident occurred when the BMW first hit a road divider before colliding with the victims’ bike, which in turn hit a DTC bus. Singh was declared brought dead at Nulife Hospital, GTB Nagar, while his wife is still under treatment for fractures.

No alcohol detected

Delhi Police said Gaganpreet’s blood test revealed no traces of alcohol. This finding rules out drunk driving as a cause of the fatal crash. However, she remains booked under serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, acts endangering life, and destruction of evidence.

Controversy over hospital choice

Questions remain about Gaganpreet’s decision to take the injured couple to Nulife Hospital—reportedly co-owned by her father—nearly 19 km from the crash site, instead of a nearby emergency facility. Police and eyewitness accounts suggest this may have delayed treatment and raised concerns of possible medical evidence tampering.

The case will next be heard on September 17, when her bail plea will also be considered.
