Voting for the Vice Presidential Election 2025 begins at 10 am today, September 9, with results scheduled to be declared after 6 pm.

The BJP-led NDA has fielded Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate, while the INDIA bloc is backing former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy.

Parties like the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are unlikely to cast their votes for the country’s second-highest constitutional office.

In the Vice Presidential election, Members of Parliament (MPs) from both Houses vote through a secret ballot under the proportional representation system using the single transferable vote method.

With the NDA commanding 425 MPs against the opposition’s 324 MPs in the 781-member electoral college, Radhakrishnan’s victory appears all but certain. The majority mark stands at 391.
