On the occasion of World Water Day, Marico Limited announced that it has created over 400 crore litres of water conservation potential in FY25 across villages in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu through its flagship water stewardship programme, Jalashay. The initiative, led under the company’s CSR framework, focuses on sustainable water resource management, community engagement, and agricultural resilience.
As part of the Jalashay programme, Marico has built over 1,200 water harvesting structures and introduced micro-irrigation systems across more than 230 acres. These efforts have directly contributed to improving groundwater levels, crop yields, and livelihood stability in water-scarce regions.
Key regional initiatives include:
- Jalgaon (Maharashtra): Focus on rainwater harvesting and community-led infrastructure development in drought-prone villages.
- Pondicherry: Promotion of rooftop rainwater harvesting and greywater treatment for reuse in school gardens.
- Dahod (Gujarat): Construction and de-siltation of water harvesting structures in one of India’s Aspirational Districts to improve water retention.
Marico has partnered with ACWADAM, a groundwater management expert, to ensure scientific planning. The programme also encourages crop diversification to reduce dependency on water-intensive farming. Training sessions at Panishala further educate farmers on aquifer management, water budgeting, green energy use, and water-resilient farming practices.
Under the extended Jalashay Jal Samrudhi initiative, the company reported benefits such as increased agricultural productivity, reduced reliance on erratic monsoons, and improved soil health due to lower erosion.
Marico’s efforts align with key UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
With continued focus on water stewardship, the company aims to scale its impact by deepening partnerships and driving long-term community-based water sustainability.
