Exercise DUSTLIK 2026, the 7th edition of the India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise, culminated successfully at the Gurumsaray Field Training Area after two weeks of intensive training from April 12 to 25. The exercise focused on enhancing interoperability and joint operational capabilities in semi-mountainous terrain through tactical drills, special arms training, and validation of integrated missions. Troops from both nations progressed from area familiarization and ambidextrous pistol firing to complex UAV operations and special operations against unlawful armed groups.
In the final phase, six operational phases were structured and rehearsed, with specialized groups handling reconnaissance, airborne insertions, surveillance, helicopter firing, house interventions, and reserve elements including engineers and medical detachments. A Joint Operational Command and Control Centre oversaw planning and execution, incorporating tactical drone surveillance, on-ground improvisations, repeated rehearsals, and final validation to achieve seamless coordination. This 48-hour validation exercise tested joint operations for neutralizing threats in challenging terrain.
The closing ceremony featured a felicitation event recognizing distinguished guests and top performers from both contingents, followed by a Commanders’ Dinner that highlighted camaraderie, mutual trust, and strengthening defence ties. The Indian Army contingent, departing on April 12, engaged in comprehensive field training alongside Uzbek forces, alternating venues yearly—the previous edition held in Pune, India, in April 2025.
DUSTLIK 2026 reinforced military cooperation, sharing best practices in counter-terrorism and boosting preparedness for joint missions. The Ministry of Defence noted advancements in operational synergy, with activities like UAV readiness and joint mission planning deepening coordination between the Indian Army and Uzbekistan Armed Forces. No incidents were reported during the exercise.
Official statements confirm the event’s success in fostering bilateral defence relations amid regional security priorities. The exercise, hosted by Uzbekistan this year, aligns with annual commitments to alternate locations and build interoperability.
