Actor Richa Chadha is set to make a triumphant return to the screen in a brand new avatar, marking her first project since her maternity break following the birth of her daughter in July 2024. In an exciting career development, the acclaimed performer will be portraying a detective for the first time in an upcoming, yet-to-be-titled web series.

A Cerebral Return

Richa, known for her powerful and unconventional roles in Gangs of Wasseypur, Masaan, and Heeramandi, is keen on surprising her audience with this shift in genre. The upcoming show is a crime thriller, and the actor was immediately drawn to the script for its layered narrative and the strength of the central character.

“Richa read the story and liked it because it was powerful and different and something that she hasn’t done before,” a source close to the production shared. Unlike some of her previous investigative roles, where she has played police officers (such as in The Great Indian Murder), this new character is designed to be purely cerebral, sharp, and restrained. This represents a deliberate move to explore a more intellectual detective space, moving away from high-octane physical roles toward a focused, character-driven mystery.

Preparation and Production

The production has already gone on floors, with approximately 50 percent of the series already shot. Richa has reportedly immersed herself in the preparation for this role, going so far as to watch several classic detective thrillers to internalize the genre’s specific nuances and investigative rhythms.

While her past work includes gritty web series like Inside Edge and Candy, this new project promises to be a unique addition to her repertoire as a leading lady in the digital space. The makers are aiming for a 2027 release, building anticipation for a show that promises to peel back the layers of a complex crime story.

By choosing such a challenging and “sharp” character, Richa continues to cement her reputation for picking roles that defy standard Bollywood archetypes. Fans of the actor, who last wowed audiences in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi (2024), are eagerly awaiting this return to the screen, where she will once again demonstrate her prowess in handling demanding, multifaceted characters
