BLACKPINK star Jennie has found herself at the centre of controversy as her upcoming track Like Jennie is being compared to Rani’s Anthem, the background score for Alia Bhatt’s character in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The 9-second teaser of Jennie’s new song, released on Tuesday, immediately caught the attention of fans—especially Indian listeners—who noted striking similarities between the beats of the two tracks.
Jennie, a global K-pop sensation, is set to release Like Jennie this Friday, and the teaser has already created a buzz online. While many of her fans praised the snippet, others pointed out how eerily similar it sounded to the theme composed by Pritam for Karan Johar’s 2023 Bollywood hit.
Some social media users didn’t hold back their criticism, with one posting a clip of Rani’s Theme alongside Like Jennie and writing, “The copy paste (crying emoji) she’s shameless.” Another user added, “This is the same song, even the vocals are similar.”
However, not everyone is convinced that Jennie directly copied the Bollywood track. Some listeners have suggested that Pritam himself may have drawn inspiration from an older Korean song, a technique he has been known to use in the past.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) speculated, “The song being similar does not necessarily mean Jennie copied Pritam, as the latter may have sampled some old Korean song for Rani’s theme.”
As discussions continue online, neither Jennie nor her label has responded to the plagiarism claims. With Like Jennie yet to be fully released, fans are eager to see if the full track will settle—or deepen—the debate.
