Zac Efron’s appearance has been a hot topic among fans, especially those who remember his “High School Musical” days. As the now 36-year-old stars in Netflix’s “A Family Affair” alongside Nicole Kidman and Joey King, it’s his face that’s grabbing attention. Comments range from admiration to jokes like, “Awesome! Many speculate that Efron’s changed look is due to plastic surgery or injectables. However, what fans might not know is that Efron suffered a severe accident in 2013, breaking his jaw. In a 2022 interview with Men’s Health, the “Baywatch” star shared how he slid in his house while wearing socks, crashed into a stone fountain, and ended up with his chin hanging off. Despite undergoing physical therapy to restore his facial muscles, the growth of his jaw persisted, leading even his mom to question if he had cosmetic work done. Though Efron denies any surgical enhancements, a plastic surgeon has weighed in with a different perspective.
Dr. Sam Rizk, a plastic surgeon, suggests Efron may have taken the opportunity to enhance his appearance following his jaw surgery. “He probably took the opportunity, in addition to correcting it, to do something better. He might have had jaw advancements, where they pull the chin a little bit more forward because his chin looks a little bit more prominent. Or a chin implant or mandibular angle implants [in the lower jaw] or all of the above,” Dr. Rizk told the New York Post. He also speculates that Efron might have had a brow lift or Botox, given the higher placement of his brows, and possibly fillers to maintain the fullness in his cheeks, which typically lose volume with age.
Despite these speculations, Efron remains unfazed by the scrutiny over his looks. He told ET that his accident was more severe than he initially let on, stating, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.” With a robust acting career and potential new ventures, it’s clear that Efron’s altered appearance isn’t hindering his success. Fans will just have to adjust to his new look.
