Indian pharmaceutical stocks broadly advanced on Monday morning, with the Nifty Pharma Index rising 2.4% to 23,131.5. The S&P BSE Healthcare Index climbed 1.47% to 44,259.96, outperforming the broader S&P BSE Sensex, which gained a comparatively modest 0.43% to 76,997.22.
Top Performers (NSE)
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries was the standout mover, rising 6.62% on NSE (BSE: +5.02%) to ₹1,727.70 — by far the largest gain in the sector on the day.
Aarti Drugs came in second with a 3.50% gain on NSE (₹379.55), followed by Alembic Pharmaceuticals at +2.86% (₹772.55).
Orchid Pharma advanced 1.99% on NSE (₹578.15), while Indoco Remedies rose 1.85% (₹210.15) and J.B. Chemicals gained 1.84% (₹2,042.80).
Torrent Pharmaceuticals added 1.89% (₹4,195.00), and Lupin rose 1.50% (₹2,330.50).
Broad Gainers
Most other pharma names recorded gains between 0.5% and 1.5% on NSE, including Zydus Lifesciences (+1.55%), Glenmark Pharma (+1.39%), Biocon (+1.33%), Natco Pharma (+1.37%), and Divis Laboratories (+1.19%).
Cipla (+1.13%), Ajanta Pharma (+1.03%), Ipca Labs (+0.95%), Aurobindo Pharma (+0.86%), Panacea Biotech (+0.88%), and Mankind Pharma (+0.83%) also closed higher.
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (+0.57%), Sudeep Pharma (+0.67%), and Wockhardt (+1.12%) posted smaller but positive moves.
Laggard
Strides Pharma Science was the only decliner in the group on BSE, slipping -0.93% (₹1,058.10). Its NSE price, however, showed a marginal gain of +0.44% (₹1,070.90), suggesting some intraday divergence.
