The Central Railways operated AC local trains have witnessed a significant rise in number of commuters , carrying a total of 49.47 lakh passengers between April 2023 and June 2023, the ministry of Railways said in its statement.

During the period between April and June 2023, the service added a revenue of Rs 23.36 crore, it added.

There are 56 AC services with 4 rakes on the suburban sections operated by Central Railways currently. The AC local trains have become immense popular among the passengers for its safety and more comfortable travel experience. The fares of AC services were reduced last year making it more viable option for passengers to opt.

Keeping in mind the needs of commuters, the railways introduced a provision that allows first class quarterly, half-yearly and yearly season ticket holders to commute through AC EMU trains by paying the fare difference in their existing tickets. This incentive allows passengers to enjoy AC travel experience over the course of entire season, regardless the remaining validity.

Central Railways is responsible for commute of over 40 lakh passengers on its suburban network. The network spans from CSMT to Kasara and Khopoli (main line), CSMT to Panvel and Goregaon (harbour line), Vashi to Thane and Panvel (trans-harbour line) and the newly commissioned Bamandongri-Belapur/ Seawood line.
