Stock market today: S&P 500 rose by 0.36% while NASDAQ 100 plunged by 1.30% amid imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminium imports

As of 9:38 AM EST today, the U.S. stock market showed mixed movements across major indices especially S&P 500 and Dow Jones after the market opened with a positive momentum despite apprehension about the Trump administration’s tariff policies. Major steelmaker companies’ stocks rallied after President Trump announced that tariffs will be imposed on steel and aluminium imports.

The S&P 500 stood at 6,047.88 USD, after rising by  0.36%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also showed positive signal as it gained around 0.29%, reaching 44,431.50 USD.

Meanwhile, the technology-heavy NASDAQ 100 Index has shown sharp decline as it dropped by 1.30% to 21,491.31 USD, while the broader NASDAQ Composite Index declined 1.36% to 19,523.40 USD. On the other hand, the NYSE Composite Index edged up 0.18%, standing at 20,074.93 USD.
