TikTok has officially launched a new ad free subscription plan in the United Kingdom, allowing users to remove ads from the platform for a monthly fee of £3.99.
The new feature, called TikTok Ad Free, will gradually roll out over the coming months and will only be available to users aged 18 and above.
TikTok introduces paid ad free experience in the UK
Under the new subscription plan, users who choose the paid version will no longer see advertisements across TikTok feeds and their personal data will also not be used for advertising purposes.
TikTok confirmed that the core app experience will remain unchanged whether users stay on the free version or subscribe to the paid tier.
That means users will still have access to the same creators, videos and platform features regardless of the plan they choose.
Why TikTok launched an ad free subscription plan
The move is widely seen as part of TikTok’s response to growing privacy regulations and advertising consent rules in the UK and Europe.
The platform’s new “pay or consent” model gives users a choice between using TikTok for free with personalized ads or paying to remove them entirely. Similar subscription models have already been introduced by Meta for Facebook and Instagram users in some regions.
TikTok said advertising still plays a major role in supporting businesses across the UK, especially small and medium sized companies that rely on the platform for marketing and sales growth.
TikTok joins growing trend of paid social media subscriptions
The launch reflects a wider shift across the tech industry as platforms increasingly introduce premium subscriptions and privacy focused features.
Streaming companies and social media apps are now offering more paid experiences as advertising rules tighten and users demand greater control over their data.
TikTok has reportedly tested ad free plans since 2023 and may eventually expand the feature beyond the UK in the future.
