US stock markets moved sharply higher on Tuesday as investors pushed major indexes closer to fresh highs amid strong buying in technology and large cap stocks. Wall Street sentiment remained positive as volatility eased and broader market participation improved.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 472 points to reach 50,165.20. The index gained 0.95% during the session after opening at 49,843.58. The benchmark touched an intraday high of 50,185.09 as investor confidence remained firm across industrial and financial stocks.

The S&P 500 also posted strong gains. The index rose 70.52 points or 0.95% to trade at 7,514.77. The benchmark hit a session high of 7,515.65 as buying momentum stayed broad based across multiple sectors.

Nasdaq leads market rally with 1.08% surge

The Nasdaq Composite emerged as the strongest performer among major US indexes. The tech heavy benchmark jumped 286.43 points or 1.08% to reach 26,688.78.

The index traded between a low of 26,423.21 and a high of 26,693.34 during the session. Strong momentum in artificial intelligence, semiconductor, and large technology stocks continued supporting gains in the Nasdaq.

Trading volumes also remained active. Nasdaq volume crossed 663.49 million shares while Dow Jones volume stood at 240.43 million shares.

Dow Jones and Russell 2000 show broad market strength

Market gains were not limited to technology stocks alone. The Small Cap 2000 index also advanced 0.87% to 2,868.56, showing improving sentiment in smaller companies and domestic focused businesses.

The broad participation across indexes reflected growing investor confidence despite ongoing concerns around interest rates and economic growth expectations.

VIX slips as market volatility cools

The CBOE Volatility Index, widely known as the VIX, edged slightly lower to 17.84. The index slipped 0.17% during the session after touching a high of 18.08 earlier in the day.

The decline in the VIX suggested that traders remained comfortable taking on more risk as equities continued pushing higher. Lower volatility often signals stronger confidence in market stability and near term momentum.
