On Saturday, 20th March 2021, Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) elected Dattatreya Hosabale as its ‘Sarkaryavah’, i.e., general secretary in Bengaluru. Dattatreya has been the joint general secretary of RSS since 2009. He replaces Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi who was on this post from past twelve years.
Around 1,500 members of ABPS elected Dattatreya as the general secretary for the next three years after the RSS’ decision making body met in Bengaluru for a two days meet, starting on Friday. Last years meet was also scheduled in Bengaluru but was cancelled because of the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown situation.

Dattatreya was born on December 1, 1955 in Shimoga district of Karnataka in a family which was influenced from the nationalist ideology of Sangh. Dattatreya started activism at a very early age and was a part of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for over 15 years. He also served as the general secretary of ABVP.
Dattatreya belongs to Karnataka, so he will play a very crucial role in making RSS stronger in South-India region.
