Camikara, India’s first pure cane-juice aged rum, has created history by becoming the first Indian rum ever to win the prestigious ‘Rum Brand of the Year’ title at the Spirits Business Awards 2025 in London. The announcement was made by Piccadily Agro Industries Limited in a press release dated November 27, 2025.
According to the release, Camikara surpassed iconic rum labels from the Caribbean, Latin America, and other globally renowned rum-producing regions, marking a major shift in how Indian spirits are perceived on the world stage. The company said this recognition positions India as a rising force in the premium aged-spirits category.
Piccadily Agro noted that India has a deep historical connection with cane-based spirits — long before whisky became dominant due to colonial influence. With sugarcane cultivated across the country and ancient references to fermented cane beverages like sidhu, Indian rum has strong cultural roots.
Camikara’s win highlights the resurgence of Indian rum craftsmanship. The judges described the brand as a “pioneer in its category,” praising its purity, craftsmanship, and terroir-driven character. The rum is produced from fresh sugarcane juice and aged in American oak barrels without any added color, sugar, or flavoring. Camikara is available in 3-year, 8-year, and 12-year expressions.
Shalini Sharma, Head of Marketing at Piccadily Agro Industries, said the award is not just an achievement but a “defining milestone for India’s rum category,” adding that Camikara has elevated India’s standing in the global spirits market.
The Spirits Business Awards are among the most respected global recognitions in the alcohol industry. The 2025 edition reportedly saw intense competition from legacy rum brands worldwide. Camikara’s victory serves as a major international endorsement of its quality, flavor profile, and craftsmanship.
Piccadily Agro Industries Limited said the win marks a “seismic shift” in the world’s perception of Indian rum and strengthens Camikara’s position globally.
