A tragic road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district claimed the life of a woman and left 22 other passengers injured after a private travel bus met with an accident near Balenga village early Saturday morning, police officials said.
According to officials from Bastar Police Station, the accident occurred under the jurisdiction of the local police station limits when the passenger bus reportedly lost control near Balenga. The impact of the crash triggered panic among passengers travelling in the vehicle during the early hours of the day.
Station House Officer Suresh Jangde confirmed that one woman died in the accident while 22 others sustained injuries. Officials said most of the injured passengers suffered minor injuries, though they were immediately shifted to a nearby district hospital for medical treatment and observation.
Police teams and local residents rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident and launched rescue efforts to evacuate passengers trapped inside the damaged bus. Authorities said emergency response teams acted quickly to transport the injured to hospital facilities in the district.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been officially confirmed. However, police said a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether speeding, driver fatigue, mechanical failure or road conditions contributed to the crash.
Road accidents involving passenger buses continue to remain a major concern in several parts of Chhattisgarh, particularly on highways and rural stretches where visibility and road conditions can become challenging during early morning travel.
Officials stated that statements of passengers and the bus staff are being recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry. Further details are expected after completion of the preliminary investigation and technical inspection of the vehicle.
