The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai on Monday, 18 August 2025, as the city continues to witness relentless rainfall since morning. The warning indicates the possibility of extremely heavy showers in several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruption, and commuter safety.
Taking precautionary measures, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shri Bhushan Gagrani has announced that all schools and colleges scheduled to function in the second session, post 12 noon, will remain closed today. The decision has been taken keeping the safety of students and staff in mind.
Residents have been urged to stay indoors unless necessary and to avoid venturing into waterlogged zones. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, while disaster management teams remain on standby to tackle emergencies.
With the Red Alert in place, the city is expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the next few hours. Commuters are advised to follow updates from IMD and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the latest advisories and safety instructions.
