U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio urges India-Pakistan de-escalation in call with EAM Jaishankar

Amid rising tensions in South Asia, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone call with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday, emphasizing the urgent need for de-escalation and improved bilateral dialogue between India and Pakistan.

In an official readout released by the U.S. State Department, Secretary Rubio underscored U.S. support for “direct dialogue between India and Pakistan” and encouraged both sides to make continued efforts toward improving communication channels.

The U.S. Secretary also extended his condolences for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to working with India in the global fight against terrorism.

The call comes as the regional security situation remains tense following recent cross-border hostilities and military strikes. There is no official response yet from India’s Ministry of External Affairs on the call.
