Two persons were killed and 20 others injured after a bus carrying devotees overturned in Gujarat’s Rajkot district on Monday, police said. The accident has added to fresh concern over road safety on busy Gujarat routes, where heavy passenger movement often increases the risk of serious crashes.

According to the police update, the bus overturned while transporting devotees, leaving two people dead at the spot or shortly after the crash, while the injured were rushed for treatment. Officials have not yet disclosed the exact cause of the accident, and the matter remains under investigation.

The latest incident comes months after another major Rajkot road tragedy, when an electric bus operated by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation rammed into several vehicles near Indira Circle, killing four people and injuring others. That earlier crash had already triggered public concern over bus safety, driver control and enforcement on city roads.

Police are expected to examine whether the Rajkot district overturn involved speeding, road condition, driver error or mechanical failure, though no official confirmation has been issued so far. Rescue and medical response were launched immediately after the mishap, with the injured receiving treatment at nearby facilities.

The accident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of passengers travelling in overloaded or fast-moving buses, especially when large groups of devotees are on the road for religious trips. Authorities are likely to share further details after completing the initial probe.
