In the wake of escalating Indo-Pak tensions and nationwide security alerts following Operation Sindoor, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf have announced that the film will forgo its theatrical release. Originally slated for a May 9 debut in cinemas, the family entertainer will now stream exclusively on Prime Video from May 16, globally.

In an official statement released by Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios, the producers cited the “heightened security drills across the nation” as the reason behind the change in release strategy. “While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND,” the statement read.

The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, and is set in Varanasi. It follows the story of Ranjan, a man caught in a bizarre time loop that makes him relive his Haldi ceremony day over and over again. Directed by Karan Sharma, the movie also features Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, and Raghubir Yadav.

Theatres aren’t the only place plans have changed—press screenings in Delhi and Mumbai were also cancelled due to the prevailing security environment.

This development comes just a day after India launched precision airstrikes on terror sites across Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
