Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC), in a joint venture with Tata Projects Limited (TPL), has won a ₹2,191 crore contract for the construction of an 8.65 km long underground corridor for the Indore Metro project. HCC holds a 55% share in the joint venture, amounting to approximately ₹1,205 crore.
The contract, identified as Package IN-05R, is the only underground segment of the 31.32 km-long Indore Metro Phase 1 project. It includes the construction of an 11.32 km tunnel using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and the development of seven underground metro stations. These stations will be located at Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalani Nagar, and Airport, spanning from a ramp east of Indore Railway Station to a ramp west of Airport Station.
Currently, HCC is engaged in several metro projects, including Mumbai Metro Line III, where it is constructing 4 km of twin tunnels and four stations, as well as multiple Chennai Metro packages. The company has played a pivotal role in India’s metro expansion, contributing significantly to Delhi Metro, Bangalore Metro, Mumbai Metro Line 1, and Kolkata Metro.
With nearly a century of engineering expertise, HCC has been instrumental in executing key infrastructure projects in India, including the construction of 26% of India’s hydropower generation and 60% of its nuclear power generation capacities. The company has also built over 4,036 lane km of expressways and highways, more than 402 km of complex tunnels, and 403 bridges.
This latest contract further strengthens HCC’s portfolio in India’s urban infrastructure sector, reaffirming its leadership in metro and transportation projects.
