In a tense situation at Patna’s Dak Bungalow intersection, a constable unintentionally struck the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Patna Sadar with a baton while police were attempting to control protesters during a nationwide strike. The strike was organized by Dalit and Adivasi groups in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the sub-classification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

The intersection became a flashpoint as police resorted to using mild force to manage the large crowd. During the incident, the SDM was mistakenly hit by a constable, an action that was later addressed by the Patna district administration. In response to the situation, a post on X from the administration clarified the incident, stating, “During the Bharat Bandh, police used minimal force to control protesters at Patna’s Dak Bungalow intersection. Amidst the effort to manage the crowd, a constable mistakenly struck the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Patna Sadar, with a baton. The SDM called it a human error and clarified that no disciplinary action would be taken against the constable.”

The SDM acknowledged the incident as a human error and confirmed that no disciplinary action would be taken against the constable, emphasizing that the situation was handled with understanding given the circumstances.
