As Demon Slayer nears its conclusion, the fates of its formidable Hashira (Pillars) become a major point of interest. Kimetsu no Yaiba has become one of the most popular anime and manga series of this generation, frequently topping the charts due to its breathtaking animation, gripping story, and memorable characters.
The Hashira are the top warriors of the Demon Slayer Corps, each mastering a distinct breathing technique. While it would be ideal for all the Hashira to survive the series, the manga has already shown that this won’t be the case. For those who only follow the anime and are curious, here’s a what happens to each Hashira by the end of the series:
- Giyu Tomioka – Water Hashira
Giyu Tomioka, the calm and stoic Water Hashira, makes it through the final battle against the demon lord Muzan Kibutsuji. Despite being injured and losing many allies, he remains committed to his role. He survives the war, scarred but alive, continuing to honor the memories of his fallen friends and protect humanity.
- Kyojuro Rengoku – Flame Hashira
Kyojuro Rengoku meets a heroic but tragic end early in the series during the Mugen Train arc. He fights the formidable Upper Rank Three demon, Akaza, with unmatched bravery and skill. Although he succumbs to his injuries, his fiery spirit and legacy motivate the younger Demon Slayers, especially Tanjiro Kamado.
- Shinobu Kocho – Insect Hashira
Known for her elegance and venomous techniques, Shinobu Kocho faces the Upper Rank Two demon Doma, who had killed her sister Kanae. Tragically, she sacrifices herself in battle, injecting a lethal dose of wisteria poison into her body to weaken Doma. Although she dies, her sacrifice is crucial as it helps Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira defeat Doma.
- Tengen Uzui – Sound Hashira
Tengen Uzui retires after a grueling battle against the Upper Rank Six demon siblings, Gyutaro and Daki. The fight leaves him severely wounded, losing an arm and an eye. Acknowledging his limitations, Tengen steps down from active duty but continues to support the Demon Slayer Corps in a less direct role, focusing on his family and recovery.
- Muichiro Tokito – Mist Hashira
The young and skilled Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, dies during the battle with Kokushibo, the Upper Rank One demon. Despite his age, he fights bravely, delivering significant blows to Kokushibo before dying. His death is particularly painful to witness as he dies at the hands of his own ancestor. Muichiro’s bravery and strength leave a profound impact on his fellow Demon Slayers.
- Mitsuri Kanroji – Love Hashira
Mitsuri Kanroji, known for her incredible strength and cheerful personality, dies during the final clash with Muzan Kibutsuji. She fights valiantly to protect humanity but succumbs to her injuries, making her death one of the most heartbreaking in the series.
- Obanai Iguro – Serpent Hashira
Obanai Iguro fights courageously in the final battle with Muzan Kibutsuji. Despite severe injuries, he continues to battle alongside his comrades, particularly Mitsuri Kanroji, with whom he shares a deep bond. Obanai dies from his wounds while holding Mitsuri in his arms, expressing their unspoken love for each other. They are eventually buried together.
- Sanemi Shinazugawa – Wind Hashira
Sanemi Shinazugawa survives the final battle despite severe injuries. His relentless spirit and determination carry him through the fight against the demons. He lives on, bearing the heavy burden of his fallen comrades, his troubled past, and the death of his brother Genya, pledging to protect the peace they fought for.

Gyomei Himejima, the towering and compassionate Stone Hashira, fights bravely in the final battle against Muzan and the Upper Ranks. He manages to defeat Kokushibo but is gravely injured by Muzan. After Muzan’s defeat, Gyomei succumbs to his injuries, leaving behind a legacy of strength and kindness.
