As we gear up for the iPhone 16 launch in September, the first rumors about the iPhone 17 are starting to surface. These early leaks might give you a reason to hold off on upgrading until 2025.

The scoop comes from the usually reliable Ice Universe, who shared details on Weibo (via MacRumors). According to the leak, Apple will be releasing four new iPhone 17 models next year. Here’s what’s got people talking:

  1. Slim Model: Instead of a Plus model, there’s talk of a new “Slim” flagship. This top-end iPhone 17 could have a 6.65-inch screen and start at $1,299 (around £1,000 / AU$1,950). If you’re looking for a cutting-edge iPhone, this might be worth waiting for. However, there’s some confusion around this model’s specs, as it appears to be priced higher but might have similar specs to the standard iPhone 17. It’s possible that details from the iPhone 16 Plus were mixed up.
  2. LTPO Displays: All four iPhone 17 models are rumored to feature LTPO displays, which support ProMotion (variable refresh rates) and might include always-on display modes. These features are currently only available on the Pro and Pro Max models of the iPhone 15.
  3. Pro Model Upgrades: The Pro and Pro Max models, and possibly the Slim, are expected to come with 12GB of RAM, three 48MP rear cameras, and a new A19 Pro chip built on a 3-nanometer process. This upgrade could mean a big leap in performance, photo quality, and video capabilities.

While we don’t have all the details about the iPhone 16 yet, it seems like this year’s upgrades might be more incremental compared to the significant changes rumored for the iPhone 17.

If you’re not thrilled by the iPhone 16’s anticipated features, it might be worth saving up and waiting for the iPhone 17’s more advanced offerings in 2025.
