Actor Kumud Mishra has played several versatile roles till date- from a faithful friend like Khatana Bhai in Rockstar to Sachin Sandhu, Amrita’s doting father in Thappad. He became a familiar face after his role in Rockstar, but one of his earliest roles was of Eknath, a trade union leader, in the 1995 Doordarshan drama, Swabhimaan. Mishra’s latest film was Ram Singh Charlie by Nitin Kakkar. It released on the digital platform, Sony Liv.

In an exclusive interview with the actor, we asked him about his experience of working on varied platforms like Doordarshan, theater, cinema and digital portals. Replying to the question, Mishra said “Zyaadatar jo forms hai, toh chaahe matlab Doordarshan ho ya web ho ya cinema ho, in me performance ke style me toh bohot fark nahi padta hai. Theater me, of course, fark padta hai. Jo craft hai, jis medium me aap kaam kar rahe hai, uski bareeki ko samajhne ka hi struggle chal raha hai.” (Be it Doordarshan, web, or cinema, there’s not much difference in the style of performance. Theater, of course, is different. The struggle is to understand your craft and the details of the medium that you’re working on.)

When asked about the lessons that he has learned over the years, Mishra said, “So, every day you learn something new about yourself, basically. You’re not learning things about the medium, you’re learning things about yourself”.

Lastly, talking about the details of his profession and craft, he said, “Aap apne aap ko discover kar rahe hote ho, aap apne chehre ko discover kar rahe hote ho. Aapko kitni baar pata chalta hai ki aap apna left haath zyaada use karte ho performance me, aap ek hi tarah ka expression use karte ho. Toh bohot saari cheezein hai jo aap kaam karte karte, over the years, experience se seekhte hai. Aur aapki performances me shayad zyaada detailing aati jaati hai. Jab maine shuru kiya tha toh bade basic emotions karta tha. Ab koshish karta hu ki thoda sa baariki aaye us performance me.” (You discover yourself, you discover your face. Several times, you realise that you are using your left hand a lot or you are using the same expression every time. So, there are numerous things that you learn from your experience of working over the years. When I began acting, I used to express only basic emotions. Now, I attempt to bring more details to my performance.)
