A large scale contact tracing work is being carried out to identify possible Coronavirus infected people after 75 employees were tested positive in two popular highway restaurants in Murthal, Haryana. According to officials at least 10,000 customers have visited the restaurant in the time period.

District Commissioner of Sonepat Shyam Lal Punia said, “We collected samples of 360 employees of Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba on Wednesday. 65 of them were found positive.”

Another 10 employees were found to be infected in the highway restaurant in Murthal, Garh Dhaba owned by actor Dharmendra.

The super spread scenario was found during a screening drive to test workers at Dhabas conducted regularly by the district administration to ensure that safety guidelines are in place.

Mr Poonia said it’s a big challenge to trace all the customers who visited the super-spreader Dhabas in the last one week.

Highway restaurants have reopened and have started functioning in full fledge after the easing of restrictions in the Unlock 4 phase, allowing interstate travel, leading to crowds being formed on the counters and the restaurants.

Haryana on Thursday reported its highest single-day spike of 1,881 coronavirus cases with 19 fatalities. Sonepat district reported 190 coronavirus cases.
