South Indian cinema has seen massive growth in recent times due to its gripping plot and character development. The industry has overall delved into deeper and more complex concepts and transpired to create masterpieces. 2023 was a special year for the South actors, as they aced their respective roles and won over the audience’s hearts. Pan India films like RRR, Pushpa many others were a delight to witness.
Now, as we have entered 2024, let’s have a look at the highly-anticipated South Indian movies which are going to be released this year.
1. Captain Miller
Superstar Dhanush, who has played a remarkable role in Bollywood films such as Raanjhanaa and Atrangi Re, will now be entering his golden era. Dhanush is all set to make his splendid appearance in the biggest film of his career i.e. Captain Miller. The upcoming Tamil language film is directed by Arun Matheswaran and is slated to release on the 12th of January 2024.
2. Pushpa 2: The Rule
Following the blockbuster success of Pushpa, the makers renewed the film for its sequel. Based on an action-thriller theme, the film features Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in key roles. The upcoming Telugu language film is directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The sequel part is scheduled to release on the 15th of August 2024.
3. Indian 2
Indian 2 will witness the comeback of veteran actor Kamal Haasan. The film is directed by S. Shankar and is filled with action-packed scenes. The film stars Kamal Haasan, S. J. Suryah, Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh and Priya Bhavani Shankar in pivotal roles. The movie will mark Haasan’s collaboration with Shankar after a 25-year-long hiatus. The film is expected to release around Diwali this year.
4. Kantara: Chapter 1
Kantara, which was released in 2022 had been a banger. The film was highly applauded for its dark mythology theme. The makers are gearing up for a prequel to Kantara which is titled Kantara: Chapter 1. Directed by Rishab Shetty, he will be reprising his role for the second instalment as well. The movie is estimated to be released in 2024, however no official date has been released as of now.
5. Devara
Devara is an upcoming pan-India film directed by Koratala Siva. The movie features Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and Prakash Raj in key roles. Based on an action-drama theme, the Telugu language film is highly anticipated by the audience. The first part of the film is slated to release on the 5th of April 2024.
