The Puducherry Union Territory administration on Sunday said that E-passes are not required to travel to and from Puducherry. The decision has come after the instruction from Ministry of Home Affairs to remove restrictions on inter-state travel. The E-pass feature has been disabled on the government portal.
As of now, Puducherry has 3,706 active cases as of now with the total number of reported case being 10,552 and 159 deaths.
The Chief Minister of the UT, V. Narayanaswamy had said on Friday that detection of novel coronavirus cases was high due to the testing rate in the UT, which is one of the highest in the country. This was made after Rakesh Aggarwal, director of Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research,JIPMER had made a statement as to how in recent days the COVID-19 burden in Puducherry had grown to become the highest in the country on a cases per million basis. He had also said the current doubling time of 14 days for cases was one of the quickest in the country.
The Chief Minister also requested cooperation from JIPMER, since it is an institute of national importance. He had also said that complete lockdown will not be imposed and will continue with the lockdown on Tuesdays.
The Chief Minster on Sunday, also requested for new warriors to join hands in the fight against COVID-19 via twitter.
