The untimely demise of renowned art director Nitin Desai has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. Desai, 67, was found hanging at his ND Studio in Karjat on August 2. While initial reports hinted at suicide due to financial woes, his daughter Mansi Desai has come forward to shed light on the circumstances leading up to her father’s tragic death.

Speaking exclusively to ANI, Mansi Desai revealed that her father had been burdened with a staggering loan of Rs 181 crore from a company. Despite repaying a substantial portion of the debt, amounting to Rs 86.31 crore, he found himself grappling with financial constraints. “He had no intention to cheat anyone,” Mansi stated firmly.

In a heartfelt plea, Mansi Desai conveyed her father’s earnest intentions to fulfill his commitments. “He was going to make all the payments that he promised. They (lenders) also demanded a six-month interest in advance which my father provided by selling his Powai office. He had no intention to defraud anyone and he was going to make all payments that he had promised,” she affirmed.

The challenges posed by the pandemic had a severe impact on the entertainment industry, leading to a dearth of work opportunities and forcing the temporary closure of ND Studio. Nitin Desai’s inability to make regular payments due to the industry slump resulted in some delays. Nevertheless, he tirelessly endeavored to engage with the loan company, seeking to restructure the agreement or secure a reasonable extension for repayment. Unfortunately, these efforts were met with “false assurances” by the company, which concurrently initiated legal proceedings against him, as recounted by Mansi Desai.

With a deep-seated concern for her father’s reputation and legacy, Mansi Desai implored the government of Maharashtra to intervene and investigate the situation comprehensively. Her appeal also echoed Nitin Desai’s last wish – for the state to take charge of ND Studios. “I appeal to the government of Maharashtra to look into this matter and also, as per his last wish, take charge of ND Studios. Please give him justice,” she earnestly urged.

The entertainment fraternity and the public alike remain gripped by the tragic circumstances surrounding Nitin Desai’s passing. As investigations unfold, the industry reflects on the challenges faced by its stalwarts and underscores the need for greater support during times of adversity. The Maharashtra government’s response to Mansi Desai’s plea remains highly anticipated as the search for answers continues.
