A car driving through the streets of Chernihiv, Ukraine, narrowly evaded a Russian airstrike and managed to film the moment two schools and a block of residences were turned to rubble as a result.
The footage, which has now been authenticated by The New York Times, shows smoke and debris erupting and individuals fleeing as a number of missiles explode.

According to reports, the assault on Thursday murdered 47 individuals, 38 of them were men and nine of whom were women. Chernihiv is located 120 kilometres (75 miles) northeast of Kyiv, which Russian soldiers have been attempting to capture from the north.
Ukraine’s emergency services also posted photographs of plumes of smoke pouring from highly damaged buildings, rubble-strewn over a yard, and rescuers carrying people on stretchers.
“Russian aircraft also attacked two schools in the Staraya Podusivka area (of Chernihiv) and private homes. Rescuers are working in the area,” Vyacheslav Chaus, the governor of the Chernihiv region, stated on Telegram.
Despite considerable evidence to the contrary, Russia has claimed that it does not target civilian areas since its invasion of Ukraine a week ago. At least 350 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since Russian President Vladimir Putin started his invasion.
Mykolayiv, a Black Sea port city in eastern Europe, issued an air raid warning on Friday after officials reported combat surrounding the city as Russian soldiers advanced. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian officials announced that Russia’s advance on the shipbuilding centre had been slowed after Regional Governor Vitaliy Kim reported Russian forces entering the city.
The strikes occurred on the same day that Ukrainian and Russian officials met on the Belarus-Poland border for discussions on a cease-fire. In a phone discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron, Putin pledged to go through with his offensive in Ukraine. Even as Western sanctions threaten to devastate Moscow’s economy, Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown no indications of backing down.
