The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday that India will send humanitarian supplies, including pharmaceuticals, to war-torn Ukraine.

In addition, the MEA stated that four Union Ministers will be dispatched as special envoys to Ukraine’s neighbouring nations to arrange the evacuation of Indians, especially students, who are still trapped in the war-torn country.

According to MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia would travel to Romania, Kiren Rijiju to the Slovak Republic, Hardeep Puri to Hungary, and VK Singh to Poland to coordinate and monitor the evacuation operation.

According to MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia would travel to Romania, Kiren Rijiju to the Slovak Republic, Hardeep Puri to Hungary, and VK Singh to Poland to coordinate and supervise the evacuation operation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level meeting that made the decision. Bagchi stated that six aircraft had so far arrived carrying around 1400 Indian people, informing them of the ongoing evacuation procedure. He stated that four flights from Bucharest (Romania) and two from Budapest (Hungary) had arrived.

According to the MEA spokeswoman, the situation in Ukraine is difficult, fluid, and alarming, but “we’ve been able to speed our evacuation procedure. Approximately 8000 Indian nationals have fled Ukraine after we issued our advice, not when the violence began.”

Bagchi also warned Indians not to rush to the border because there is a rush and the evacuation may take some time. “We request Indians to go to West Ukraine but don’t reach the border directly as there’s rush there, it’ll take time. Go to nearby cities, seek shelter there. We’re making arrangements there, our teams will help you. Don’t panic, we have enough flights,” he further said.
