Hollywood is no stranger to high-profile divorces, and the recent separation of Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert has once again made headlines. While the couple initially kept things cordial, Teyana recently paid USD 70,000 to her ex-husband, a court-ordered fine stemming from a violation of their divorce terms.
Teyana Calls $70K Payment ‘Best Lil Coin’ She Ever Spent
In a candid interview with The Breakfast Club, Teyana Taylor opened up about the court order. She was required to pay Iman Shumpert USD 70,000 after being found in contempt of court for publicly commenting on their divorce.
Teyana, however, sees the payment in a positive light, saying:
“If it’s gonna give me my peace and we can be done with this for good, I sent that wire so fast.”
The fine came after Iman accused her of violating their divorce agreement by posting an Instagram video earlier in the year, in which she alleged he had fed media outlets with details about their split. While the court sided with Iman, Teyana views the payment as a way to close a stressful chapter and move forward.
Why Did Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert Divorce?
Cracks in their marriage began well before this latest conflict. When Teyana confirmed the divorce, she stated that infidelity was not the primary reason for the split, and she maintained that Iman would remain a close friend.
Court documents, however, revealed other contributing factors: Iman was reportedly unsupportive of Teyana’s career, allegedly resented her for working after their children were born, and had legal issues including arrests for DUI and marijuana possession. Infidelity was also mentioned as a factor, further straining their relationship.
Teyana and Iman’s Love Story
Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s relationship began at a party in 2011 and blossomed over the next few years. In 2015, Iman proposed during their baby shower, and the couple secretly married in 2016 in the same bathroom where their daughter, Junie, was born. Their life together was even documented in the reality series We Got Love: Teyana & Iman, highlighting their family and love story.
The couple welcomed their second daughter, Rue Rose, in 2020. However, Iman filed for divorce in 2023, and their separation was finalized in 2024. Despite the ups and downs, Teyana continues to focus on her peace and her career, seeing the $70,000 payment as a step toward closure.
